The Future Industry in Energy: Dropping the Concept of Nuclear Energy At the start of the mid 1950ââ¬â¢s, the world was introduced to a new, alternative source of power that would revolutionize the energy industry; this power became known as nuclear energy. Since that time, nuclear energy seemed to pave the way in efficiency and supply power to countless cities around the globe. However, the past has shown that there are many major disadvantages to using nuclear energy. Today, many individuals believe that nuclear power plants are hurtful to the Earth and urge America and various other countries to use ââ¬Å"green energyâ⬠instead and help preserve Mother Nature. Numerous individuals and groups from around the world are currently creating new waysâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Even when nuclear waste was buried in the ground at special dump sites, it still harmed the area and wildlife because the waste would, again, rot away its container. Today, countries around the world are still faced with the problem of nuclear waste. Is there any way to stop nuclear waste from hurting Mother Nature? The answer is yes. If the world stops using nuclear energy, then there will be no waste that would hurt the Earth. One of the worst disasters the world has ever seen is the nuclear power plant accident in Chernobyl that occurred on April 12, 1986. The disaster claimed 6,700 lives and made a fairly populated city in Ukraine, almost a permanent ghost town. Due to the radiation, no one is capable of living in the city anymore. Imagine that the accident had occurred in the United States, or any other heavy populated country instead of Ukraine. Nothing would be the same if the cities such as New York City became infected with radiation and humans could never live there until radiation dies down many years later. Accidents will happen, whether they are man-made or they are natural. One recent example of a natural nuclear disaster is the plant in Fukushima in 2011. The nuclear plant was struck by a tsunami activated by an earthquake. The plant had released an extreme amount of radioactive substance and, in turn, affected the area. This is a crucial reason why renewable energy is more practical; because when accidents occur, it will beShow MoreRelatedNuclear Energy And Its Impact On The World1178 Words à |à 5 Pages Nuclear energy has been a topic of world debate since its invention, with both clear upsides and downsides the topic of universal nuclear energy use has been subject to controversy and public scrutiny, but also scientific and economic praise. The Night Of The Hunter The Preacher Essay Example For Students
The Night Of The Hunter: The Preacher Essay The Night of the Hunter: The PreacherWhen describing the preacher, John says, His name is Harry Powell. Butthe names of his fingers are E and V and O and L and E and T and A and H andthat story he tells about one hand being Hate and the other hand being Love is alie because they are both hate and to watch them moving scares me worse thanshadows, worse than the wind. This description shows the absolute essence of the preachers characterin Davis Grubbs The Night of the Hunter. The preachers real intentions arethe hate of the left hand, and he rationalizes his evil through the false facadeof the love of the right hand. Even though he may appear good and holy to somepeople, throughout the novel, he still has evil motives towards virtuallyeveryone. In one of the preachers dreams while he is in prison, he recalls anincident in which he rationalized an evil act by claiming it was Gods will. After being solicited by a prostitute in Charleston, West Virginia, with theintention of killing her because of her unholy vocation, he takes her up to aroom to murder her. Just as he is about to whip out the switchblade and fulfillhis holy mission, he suddenly hears Gods voice telling him not to botherbecause there were too many of them. At the moment when this revelation takesplace, the woman of the night sees the preacher in the midst of taking out theknife, and she screams. The shouting brings a Negro servant, and the preacheris forced to kill both the servant and prostitute. In Powells sick and twistedmind, God had merely changed His mind when Preachers life was in danger. Thereis a contradiction in Gods words and clearly the preacher is merely using hisconversations to aid in his own egotistical self-interest. The fact that Preacher lies to most people that he meets is a way inwhich he puts up the holy act to mask his evil soul. He is an expert insandwiching lies between truths, weaving them in a tangled and intricate web andthus making his lies all the more difficult to discover. When he first ridesinto town, he tells the people that he knows Ben Harper because he was thepreacher at the jail that held Ben. In actuality, he and Ben shared the samecell. Powell does not want anyone to know he stole a car and he cansubstantiate his lie because he knows things about Ben from being in the samecell. As a result, the people (except John) do not suspect Preacher to be themalicious murderer that he is. The preacher also tells people that Ben told himthat he threw the ten-thousand dollars he stole into the river. Harper actuallynever leaked his secret and even stuffed a sock in his mouth to keep himselffrom telling. This lie made practically everyone believe the money was gone andno one (except John ) anticipated the preachers greedy plan to steal it. Inaddition, Powell also lied after he killed Willa. This time his lie wasintended to conceal an act rather than a motive. He said that Willa drove awayin the car to leave him and even drove himself to shed false tears so that hewould not get into any trouble. Throughout the course of the novel, thepreachers lies gradually become more convoluted. The instrument with which the preacher spreads Gods glory is theknife. This weapon is a direct extension of the hate in Preachers heart. Heclaims that the reasons for the switchblades usage are to fulfill Godswishes, but the opposite is the case. When referring to the knife, he screams,This is what I use on meddlers! Get me? For meddlers! These meddlers thathe talks of are not interfering with Gods work but instead are interfering withthe preachers personal desires. Frequently, the phrase, Its steel tonguelicked out. is used to indicate the action when the preacher presses theknifes button. Because of this novels many biblical references, this phrasesuggests that the knife resembles some sort of serpent like the one in theGarden of Eden. In the garden, the serpent represents evil like the evil inPreachers soul. Also whenever Powell holds the knife, it is with his lefthand, and he would press its button with the finger called H on his left hand. .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555 , .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555 .postImageUrl , .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555 , .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555:hover , .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555:visited , .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555:active { border:0!important; } .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555:active , .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555 .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ube8d8a0d9dd2490f56149a88e77ab555:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Impacts On The American Revolution EssayTraditionally the left hand is associated with evil and the devils work. Preacher is probably a natural lefty who was swaddled in his infancy in order toforce him to use his right hand. This interpretation explains why the preacheruses the knife with his left hand but writes with the right. He uses the lefthand of hate to do his evil work. The knife which he always uses with the lefthand is an integral part of his madness. Because he is prone to do evil acts, the preacher creates a wall ofgoodness to make himself appear more Godly. Powell probably decided to become apreacher as an outgrowth of this elaborate act. Eventually, Preacher became soaccustomed to this charade that he began rationalizing his evil by saying he wasin fact doing good.
